Performance Driven, Poetically Crafted Architecture

Single Family Residence

Primary Home

Ravine House is planned to take advantage of its natural environment. The pinwheel floor plan, rooted in FL Wright and Destihl precedents, results in rooms with windows and views on multiple sides. Unlike its modern precursors, the house is designed and constructed to contemporary technical standards.

The house’s leafy suburban street environment gives way to a dramatic wooded ravine.

The house features a third-floor children’s playroom with a terrace overlooking the pool and ravine.

The house’s architecture attempts to mediate the tension between man-made and natural environments. The strategic arrangement of solid walls and expansive windows direct views between interiors and the natural environment and strike a balance between transparency and privacy. The contrast between austere stucco wall surfaces and warm wood frames heightens the tension.
